My origins
I am the son of a lineage of seafarers, as was my father, a Ocean going Captain and Commander of large ships, my grandfather Vincenzo and my great-grandfather Gioacchino, both sailors sailing in the Merchant Navy.
I am the son of a lineage of seafarers, as was my father, a Ocean going Captain and Commander of large ships, my grandfather Vincenzo and my great-grandfather Gioacchino, both sailors sailing in the Merchant Navy.
I served in the Merchant Navy as a Deck Officer from 1975 to 1980, earning the professional maritime qualification of Master of the Sea, which qualifies me to command merchant ships without tonnage restrictions in all the world’s seas.
From 1980 to 1983, I served as a Navigator and Second in Command on ships of the Italian Navy.
From October 1983 until November 18, 2011, I served in the Coast Guard, commanding Coast Guard Patrol Vessels for approximately six years, the port of Gioia Tauro, and the Italian Coast Guard’s National Operations Center (ITMRCC), as well as carrying out numerous missions abroad in operational theaters.
I have sailed three oceans in both hemispheres, rounded the Cape of Good Hope twice, crossed the Panama Canal, and navigated the great rivers of St. Lawrence, Columbia, and Guadalquivir.
Retired with honor from Italian Coast Guard on November 18th, 2011, and presently belong to the Reserve Corp of the Italian Navy (Coast Guard) Admirals with the rank of Rear Admiral.
